Policy #9 - Progressive Discipline - Effective 2023-10-12

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to articulate how Timmins Ringette will address the application of discipline for Timmins Ringette Association policy infractions, Ringette Ontario policy infractions and Ringette Canada policy infractions. This policy will also articulate how the record of those infractions will be maintained.

PROCEDURE

Once a member or player has committed an infraction:

  • The instance must be communicated to the President and Secretary as quickly as possible

  • The Executive Committee will be notified and they will assess the level of progressive discipline for the instance. If the nature of the infraction warrants, then the Executive Committee will impose more serious sanctions at the outset.

  • The assessed level of discipline will be added to any existing discipline for which the sanction has not been completed.

  • Should an infraction be committed within one month of a previous infraction then the level of progressive discipline shall be assessed one level higher than it would normally have been

MAINTENANCE OF INFRACTION RECORDS

The Vice-President will maintain the record of each individual instance for a minimum of one year. The Board of Directors may assess additional time for a record of an instance to be maintained. The record of the instance will be deleted after the maintenance period has expired.

LEVELS OF PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE

The Timmins Ringette Association will apply sanctions to members and players per the following seven steps. Sanctions listed below are expressed in terms of “Games” but any time associated with Timmins Ringette events, on or off ice, including competitive team events, will be considered a “game” for the purposes of sanctions.

Step 1: First Reprimand - Verbal

Step 2: Second Reprimand - Written

Step 3: Two Games Suspension

Step 4: Five Games Suspension

Step 5: Ten Games Suspension

Step 6: Twenty games suspension

Step 7: Membership Suspension

APPEAL OF SANCTIONS

The member may appeal the sanctions imposed by communicating the basis of the appeal to the President and Secretary. The Board of Directors will assess the appeal and revise the sanctions imposed should that be warranted. The decision of the Board of Directors is final.
