The Timmins Tornadoes U16A team was in Whitby Jan 5-7 for their second tournament of the season. They started off the weekend strong with a 9-2 win against Ajax. Their second game, versus Forest, was a nail bitter. Timmins was down 4-1; with only 6:14 minutes left in the game, they scored 2 in quick succession. They tied the game shortly after before finally scoring the game winning goal with 10 seconds left in the game. Timmins then faced off against the Whitby team, winning that game 7-2 before succumbing to Oshawa 2-7. Their 3-1 record placed them in first place after round robin play, giving them a chance at redemption; a rematch against Oshawa for gold medal. Timmins scored twice late in the first period and added a third early in the second, giving the Oshawa team no chance to retaliate. With 5 minutes left in the game, Oshawa was able to put two in the net. However, that wasn’t enough, Timmins holding on to the 3-2 win, giving them their second gold medal of the 2017-2018 season.
The Timmins team will be back in action Feb 9-11 in Guelph where they are looking to qualify for the top pool of the 2018 Provincial Championship which will be held in March.
