Emily Jensen Awarded 2016 Agnes Jacks Scholarship

Congratulations Emily!
Recipient of 2016 Agnes Jacks Scholarship from Ringette Canada

On June 6th, Ringette Canada announced the recipients of this year’s scholarship awards.  The Timmins Ringette Association (TRA) is proud to announce that Emily Jensen has been selected to receive an Agnes Jacks Scholarship Award for the 2016-17 Academic year.  She is one of five girls from across Canada to receive this award recognizing ringette players, officials and/or coaches who have demonstrated a strong academic performance and a commitment to the sport of ringette. Em#1

Emily has been playing ringette in Timmins for 13 years, both as a house league player and a player on our Provincial A Teams.  She has also played at the AAA level for Northeastern Ontario, and was selected to participate in the Team Ontario evaluation camp in 2014.

TRA President Yves Viel is quick to point out that in addition to her involvement as a player, Emily has been an active volunteer with TRA as an Assistant Coach, and as an instructor with the Northeast Ringette School.  And, for the past two years she was the ringette school coordinator.

“Not only is Emily and exceptional ringette player,” notes Ben Rafuse, one of Emily’s Provincial A coaches, “She has made a significant contribution to the Northeast (Timmins) Ringette School. This program has been an outstanding success, and the increased enrolment rate is proof of her capabilities as a mentor and role model for a younger generation of ringette players.”

Perhaps Emily sums it up best.  “I am so honoured to receive this award.  Ringette is an AMAZING game.  But to me it is so much more than that.  It has helped shape who I am.  I have made lifelong friends, and playing and coaching have helped me to develop skills that I can use in my future.  I am very grateful to TRA for having confidence in me and giving me the opportunity to be involved with helping younger players.  Thank you also to all my coaches for motivating me to become the best I could be while still having fun!”

Congratulations Emily on your demonstrated commitment to the sport of ringette as a player, coach and volunteer!  We wish you luck as you embark on your future endeavours!
