The Timmins U14 ringette team was in Waterloo January 15-17, 2016 for their second tournament of the 2015-2016 season. The team had a first tournament in Nepean in early November 2015 where the girls were victorious – bringing home a gold medal. This second tournament was a chance to test their skills against teams they hadn’t played yet and hopefully extend their winning streak.
The team had a strong start to the weekend with a 12-0 win against Cambridge and a 7-3 win against Richmond Hill on Friday. They continued their domination with a 9-0 win vs Burlington and a 11-4 win against Elora Fergus on Saturday. Speed and acurate passes were definitely well developped elements for the Timmins team.
In the semifinals early Sunday morning, the Timmins faced off against the fouth place team, Cambridge. Their opponents were hungry for a win and fought hard. However, Timmins came out on top with a 6-2 win, earning themselves a spot in the finals.
In the finals, Timmins found themselves playing Richmond Hill once again. Timmins started with an early lead and added to it again and again. Timmins finished the gold medal game with a 8-3 win!
With these wins, the Timmins U14A team remains undefeated and are placed first overall in the province. The team will travel to Guelph in February for their last tournament. Their goal is to maintain their #1 position going into the Provincial tournament that will be held in Timmins in March.
